St John Passion

Bach Collegium Japan

Masaaki Suzuki

There’s no mightier spiritual or artistic challenge than Bach’s St John Passion – and few living performers are better-equipped to tackle it than Masaaki Suzuki and his Bach Collegium Japan.

The pairing make a keenly awaited return to London with Bach’s transcendent Passion setting. The St John Passion is perhaps the most intensely human of Bach’s great sacred works: perfect for an ensemble that combines supreme refinement with a limitless reverence for this sublime music.

The Barbican hosted the Collegium’s first ever UK residency in 2016; since then, they’ve won global acclaim and their Bach, in the words of Gramophone magazine ‘reaches, you might say, those parts that other performances do not’.

The concert will finish at approximately 10pm and includes a 20 minute interval.

This performance will be surtitled.
